Hole in one for Galgorm Castle Golf Club with £10,000 savings a head of the NI Open

Making it from tee to green just got easier for the staff at Galgorm Castle Golf Club as they announce savings of £10,000. The Club which will host this year’s NI Golf Open Challenge from 28th to 31st August has reinvested the savings into ensuring that the course is in perfect condition for the 156 players who will be battling to be named Northern Ireland Open Challenge Champion.

The forward-thinking club, one of the first in Northern Ireland to invest in an innovative wood pellet modularised heating system from BS Holdings, has reduced the clubs heating costs by 110% and its CO2 emissions by more than 50,000 kgs since April 2013.

The 99kw carbon neutral modularised heating system was supplied by BS Holdings, one of Northern Ireland’s leading providers of biomass systems, and the team also assisted Galgorm Castle Golf Club to make further savings through the government’s Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) which guarantees fuel payments to the Club for the next twenty years.

Gary Henry from Galgorm Castle Golf Club said: “Going green really has made sense for us not only because it helps us better protect the beautiful, natural landscape that makes us one of Northern Ireland’s leading courses, but we’ve also been able to quickly make actual cost savings that can be reinvested into the club.

“Keeping our course in shape for events like the Northern Ireland Open takes time and we invest significantly in keeping our greens and fairways at their best and the savings we’ve made have allowed us to do this.”

BS Holdings installed a heating system at Galgorm Castle Golf Club’s to enable the introduction of a low temperature hot water system (LTHW) which would replace the electric heating the club had been using and the company is also supporting Galgorm Castle by sponsoring the NI Golf Open Challenge for 2014.

Brian Hood, Managing Director, BS Holdings comments, “We are delighted with the savings Galgorm Castle Golf Club has made in just over a year. They’ve fully embraced ‘going green’ because it makes business sense for them. More and more clubs, companies and organisations are tapping into renewable fuel sources such as our biomass system and it is allowing them to make almost immediate savings and reduce their impact on the environment.”

BSH 99k systems utilise biomass wood pellets that are locally produced in the UK. These pellets emit much lower net carbon emissions that conventional heat sources such as gas, heating oil or electricity. Biomass fuel has been proven to deliver significant and cost-effective carbon savings, especially in commercial and industrial organisations. As well as offering carbon savings, biomass is a secure, reliable fuel source that minimises fuel price volatility that is often experienced by oil and gas users.
